LOW BIRTH WEIGHT AND PREMATURITY

• IUGR is present in 26% if infants with SUA compared to 5% of controls (1).
• 25-59% of infants with SUA have a birth weight of <2500 grams (1,2). This represents a 5-6 fold increase compared to a control group.
• Jones and co-workers (3) reported that infants with SUA weighed significantly less (2750 g versus 3170 g, p<0.01) (3).
• Birth weight of twins with SUA were more than 500 g less than the co-twin (2)
• 25% of fetuses with SUA are born premature (although the premature infant with a SUA has the same prognosis as the infant without a SUA (1).
